Reagan Boggs: Right Now

East Tennessee singer-songwriter Reagan Boggs

East Tennessee singer songwriter Reagan Boggs will celebrate the release of her new album, "Right Now" in the Great Room of Patrick Sullivans in Knoxville's Old City on August the 11th.

We got a chance to catch up with her for a brief interview to find out more about the album, and got a hot tip on a GREAT free promotion that she will be offering at this show.

If her last album, "Never Looking Behind" is any indication of what to expect, you won't want to miss the new album, the show or her promotion.

Knoxville Music Scene: So your upcoming Knoxville show is to promote your new record?

Reagan Boggs: Yes - it's called "Right Now" and is due out this August. It will be available for sale at the Patrick Sullivan's show.

While I'm proud of the record that came before, I feel like this one is leaps and bounds above it - songwriting and production wise.

Knoxville Music Scene: What's the plan for this Knoxville show?

Reagan Boggs: We will be showcasing songs from the new record, as well as a few from the last.

I'm really looking forward to getting back to Knoxville with my band!

There will be somewhat of a different line-up than usual; the group includes: Eric Fristch - Lead Guitar; Jim Price - Bass; Robbie Stevens - Drums; Kevin Jackson - Fiddle; and Myself - Rhythm guitar & banjo.

Knoxville Music Scene: I understand you've got some great musicians playing with you on "Right Now". Can you tell us a little bit about that, and a little more about the recording?

Reagan Boggs: There are 12 tracks altogether - - all written by me except one, which is a song written by Herb Pederson called "Wait a Minute."

The majority of it was recorded in Nashville at Eastwood Studios by Eric Fritsch, who also co-produced the project with me.

Many of the vocals and acoustic instrument overdubs were recorded in East Tennessee and SW Virginia by Jim Price. Some of the musicians who played the album are Eric Fritsch, Matt Crouse, Park Chisolm, Al Perkins, Kevin Jackson, & Jason Crawford.

Eric and Park are both alumni of Scott Miller and the Commonwealth. Eric will also be playing guitar for me at the Patrick Sullivan's show.

The name for the record really came from the track with that name. It's one of my favorites, and it seemed to be a good follow-up to my last record, which was called "Never Looking Behind."

Knoxville Music Scene: Your last album was selected as one of the 30 best Americana albums of 2006 by Knoxville radio station WIVK. What does 'Americana' mean to you?

Reagan Boggs: To me, Americana fits most styles of music that cannot quite be classified as anything else. Maybe it's because it's a little to rootsy or bluesy to fall into the more mainstream markets.

I see Americana in itself as a style that represents the artists who have more creative freedom - those who do not have to follow one particular formula, or stick to one particular sound because it's what is perceived as commercial.

Americana songs and songwriting tend to be more real, raw, or edgy.

Knoxville Music Scene: So I heard you have a promotion for your Patrick Sullivan's album release?
