Bonnaroo Guest Camping
In Bonnaroo Guest Camping, the third installment of Nate Barrett's tale of being a musician in the Bonnaroompah Band at Bonnaroo 2007, we join Nate and his merry revelers as they get settled and prepared for their first night on Bonnaroo town.
Determined to maximize their time in Bonnaroo Guest Camping, Nate and the rest of the Bonnaroompah Band arrived the Wednesday before Bonnaroo -- a full day before the arrival of paying festival goers. Before we get into Nate's story - just in case you don't know what Bonnaroo's Guest Camping is - it's where the musicians and other performers camp out away from the paying Bonnarooers. Nate and his companions' excitement about getting their lanyards was only exceeded by their excitement about getting 5 days of access to the musician's catering tent. But that's another story. Let's continue with Nate... Before the thrill of the lanyard had time to fully sink in, the next stop was, obviously, Wal-Mart for some well-needed supplies (beer and junk food). The parking lot was crammed to the gills with people camping out, waiting for the morning when they could move in to the camp grounds surrounding the biggest party on the planet. Drums were being beaten, tickets were being scalped, and dreads were locking as we stumbled in to grab some gear to keep us alive for the next five nights. With a cart full of beer, fruit, wheat thins, and sun block, we hustled back to our cars. On the way, we ran into Knoxvillian wordsmith Jack Rentfro. He seemed to already be in the spirit of things - speaking in the pigeon language of the tribes like a parking lot Stanley Livingston. We said we would catch each other inside later, and off we went to finally get to the camp ground that was to be our new home for the next several days. After flashing our passes and getting our windshield stickers checked a few times, we made our way to the guest camping ground. We got our spot, and lo and behold, were parked right next to the ever so lovely and talented Gypsy Hand Belly Dancers. It is a small world when you are from K-town and camping in the guest lot. Some chicken salad, beer, and wheat thins later, we could finally not keep the energy of the guest passes around our necks from steering us into the ‘Roo. It was time to see what these bad boys could do. ...What did those bad boys do? Get up on (and get kicked off of) the main stage, maybe?? Was this when Nate got diet advice from one of the most famous rockers in history? We shall see. Stay tuned for Nate's story about Wednesday night at Bonnaroo.
